AI Project Builder

What happens to files I upload to AI Project Builder?

Source files are private, temporary, and deleted after the import. Only what you choose becomes part of your project.

Files you upload into AI Project Builder are **source material**, not project files. They are held in a private area, they have no public address of any kind, and they are deleted automatically once the import is finished.

While the import is running

  • Source files are stored privately and are readable only by your own account.
  • They are not attached to any project, do not appear on your public profile, and are not served by any public URL.
  • They do not count against your storage allowance. An import can move far more data than your plan stores permanently, because none of it is being stored permanently.

After the import

Source files are deleted approximately 24 hours after the import finishes. The clock starts when your draft is ready, not when you started the upload, so a long import does not cost you review time. If you cancel an import, its files are deleted immediately rather than waiting for that window.

The only exception is the files you explicitly choose to keep. Those are copied into your ordinary project storage, count against your plan's storage and per-project limits, and from that point behave exactly like a file you uploaded through the project form.

What is sent to the AI provider

Not your files. What is sent is the structured summary extracted from them — file names and folder paths, CAD metadata such as originating system, units and part names, extracted document text, spreadsheet headers and sample rows, and image dimensions.

A small number of images are sent to an image model to be described. Beyond those, no file bytes leave Provenfolio.

The privacy policy names the AI provider currently configured, and what it may do with what it receives.

If your work is confidential

Upload only what you are permitted to. Extracted document text and CAD part names are sent to a third-party AI provider in order to build the draft, and a drawing number or a client name inside a report will be part of that. If a project is under an agreement that forbids this, do not import it — build the project manually instead, which involves no AI provider at all.
